Hello! My name is Lauri. I would like to help you with your learning of the English language. I am a Native English speaker, born and raised in the United States. I have been living in Mexico for three years, where I provide private English classes for adults or teenagers. Classes are individual. I offer special prices for business groups or groups of students who want to take their classes together, when they have almost the same level of English (maximum 4 people).
I speak English and Spanish, as well as basic Brazilian Portuguese. This is the reason I prefer to teach English to Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese speakers. I better understand your needs as a foreign language student since I have been a language student myself. Do not worry. I have a lot of patience and there is no reason to feel embarrassed if you make any mistakes. I want you to be confident with the language and to learn it. That is why you are here.
I love adapting my teaching methodologies and techniques for each student according to their needs. I use the communicative approach, where you will learn English based on real life for business, situational and/or social functions. Do you need to work on your professional communications or presentations during your class? We can do it!
I also offer test preparation classes for Business English, TOEFL iTP/pBT, or TOEFL iBT. I teach levels A1 to C2 and will help you with any gaps that exist in your language learning. I work with native pronunciation, not only to improve your own pronunciation, but also so that you can better understand native speakers. We will also work together to increase your vocabulary.
We will speak English in class, but we will speak Spanish when necessary for translation or for better understanding, especially to understand grammar rules. I like to make grammar rules much easier to understand and remember.
I teach through Zoom and it just requires a good internet connection. The best connection is by Ethernet cable. Both my students and I have found that classes through Zoom are much more interactive and allow the use of many additional resources, which is not possible in person. My students actually prefer online classes.

Professional Experience...
The TEFL / TESOL certification has provided me with a solid background in theories, approaches, methodologies, strategies, learning styles and grammatical structures of language learning. The training I completed took into account learning at all levels of the language, from A1 to C2. The TBE certification has allowed me to specialize in Business English and the specific language needs of business owners and / or business professionals.
My professional work experience in both the public and private sectors has provided me with a diverse knowledge base from which to structure my classes. Additionally, my personal education at the University of New Mexico consisted of a large percentage of language and linguistic courses that served to enhance my understanding of language learning. I also continue to develop my skills by keeping abreast of the latest information on language learning and teaching. I ensure that my students have many resources available for their study of English outside of the classroom setting and I constantly strive to provide the best possible learning opportunities for my students.
